THEIR STORY
3rd Generation Family-Owned Farm
P R Bones & Son was established in 1954 and has been based at Buddles Farm since 1963. The farm is located between Broadstairs and Margate on the Isle of Thanet.

P R Bones & Son has been a family-run farm for three generations with the fourth generation already taking an active role.

ABOUT P.R. BONES & SON

Originally, the farm cultivated a wide range of vegetables, top fruit, and maintained a flock of 13,000 hens for egg production.
Over time, the focus of the farm has shifted, evolving into a specialist grower of cauliflower, including Romanesque and unique new cauliflower varieties.
In addition to this, the farm grows spring wheat and field beans for seed contracts, as well as pumpkins for the Halloween season.

Thanet is known for having some of the best soil in the UK for vegetable production, and P R Bones & Son is fortunate to work with both grade 1 and grade 2 soil types on the farm. The soil is situated on a chalk bedrock, which provides a free-draining, lime-rich, loamy base ideal for growing cauliflower.

With the farm surrounded by the coast on three sides, it enjoys a maritime climate and it tends to be milder in winter compared to inland areas, reducing the risk of frost damage. During the six-week cauliflower planting season in summer, the cooler temperatures help prevent plant losses from drought, making it an ideal growing environment.
