THEIR STORY
3rd Generation Family Run Farm
Spanton Farms is a family-run agricultural business located in Minster, near Ramsgate in Kent, England. The farm spans approximately 250 hectares (about 618 acres) and specializes in arable and vegetable crops.
A significant focus is on asparagus cultivation, with plans to expand asparagus acreage from 40 hectares to around 100 hectares over several years.

ABOUT Spanton Farms

The farm benefits from the Isle of Thanet's unique microclimate, surrounded by the sea on three sides, providing a frost-free environment conducive to early crop production.
Historically, the region was known for cauliflower and early potatoes, but changing consumer preferences have led to a decline in these crops. Asparagus, being a high-value, seasonal crop, has become a key product for Spanton Farms, supplying supermarkets during its short season from mid-April to the end of June.

Spanton Farms also employs seasonal workers, particularly from Romania, who are integral to their operations. The farm provides accommodation for these workers, who typically arrive in April and may move on to other farms in the region after the asparagus season.

Additionally, Spanton Farms has received agricultural subsidies from the UK government, reflecting its role in the country's farming sector.
